Astral projection, out of body experience and lucid dreaming – I’ve been thinking of writing about these topics for a while, but due to their nature, I was held back until now. Although there are thousands and probably millions of people that know exactly what I am talking about, I am sure there are going to be people that will claim that I have made this story up or that no such things exist. However, I want to assure you that I have no reasons to be dishonest with you. I simply want to share my story and my experiences. You are free to judge and to decide for yourself whether you believe me or not, but that won’t in any way impact the experiences that I’ve had.

By sharing this, I want to make it clear to you that astral projection, out of body experiences and lucid dreaming are not as mystical as people make them. In fact, by putting a little effort into it, you can experience all of it for yourself. We, people, tend to doubt and mysticize that which we cannot touch.

The reason why I am writing this post in a blog that is devoted to self-development is because astral projection, out of body experiences and lucid dreaming can all be used to make a serious, positive impact on life. But I’ll talk more about that later on. I am actually so surprised that we in this modern day and world, have so little knowledge on the subject. It has such a potential, yet so little is known of it.

Astral projection, out of body experience, lucid dreaming – how it all began

Introduction to the phenomenon

I was about 14 or 15 years old at the time. I was sitting at a friend’s house, watching him play computer games. At one point we began listening to music and he showed me an old music video of a band that he really liked – Astral Projection (music video below). I was just getting into electronic music at the time, but I instantly liked that track.

My friend asked me whether I knew what “Astral Projection” actually meant, and I said I didn’t. He explained that Astral Projection is when your so-called “astral body” separates from your physical body and you are able to travel wherever in the universe you want to. He told me that apparently, it was no joke and that people experience this all the time. Needless to say, my jaw fell to the floor. But how is this possible? Why haven’t I heard about this before? – I thought to myself.

The fact that I was still young at that moment and lacked proper criticism actually benefitted me. If I were told now about this phenomenon, who knows, maybe I would’ve though it’s bogus and never attempted to research it any further.

Long story short, that day I came home and began reading all about astral projection. The internet was full of different techniques on how to experience it. One, supposedly, very common and effective approach was to listen to binaural beats while resting. These sounds somehow were supposed to relax you and help you leave your body. I then found a website where I could listen to these beats. I got my earphones and began the process.

Astral projection and out of body experiences happen only if you are able to lie down and fully relax. The goal is to be as relaxed as possible and to allow “it” happen to you. The binaural beats would let “it” happen to you faster. That’s what the website was claiming.

The kitchen at the time was the only place in my parents’ house where the internet had at least some connection. The chair that I was sitting on was wooden and uncomfortable – not even close to allowing me to feel comfortable and relaxed. However, I was so pumped up by the idea that I would now leave my body, that none of it mattered. I was super excited.

First vibrations

I put on the sounds playing and closed my eyes. Binaural beats sounded really interesting and mystical – deep and low humming sounds. I can’t now recall exactly, but I would say it was about ten minutes in when I began to feel something extremely strange. I felt electrical impulses penetrating my body. My heart began to pound from the anxiety that was crawling all over me. The impulses got stronger and I opened my eyes.

I was shocked to the core. I did not understand what happened to me, but the impulses could not be described as anything other than “vibrations”. That was exactly what people on the internet were referring to. They didn’t lie.

Because I almost instantly got to feel these vibrations while sitting in an extremely uncomfortable position, I knew that they would be a lot stronger if I lie down. I downloaded the binaural beats onto my parents’ laptop and placed it right next to my bed. I got under than blanket into a comfortable position and started to listen.

Quite soon I began to feel the vibrations again. As they got stronger, I got extremely anxious, but this time I didn’t want to stop. I wanted to go all the way, I needed to experience astral projection and have an out of body experience. For the next half an hour I was battling these vibrations, allowing them to calm down and then get stronger again. But my body was too stiff to let me leave it.

As I mentioned earlier, you need to fully relax and let go off your body to experience astral projection, but it’s easier said than done. Try relaxing when you are having electricity soar through your body, when you are experiencing something that not only you’ve never felt before, but haven’t even heard anyone talk about! Needless to say, I couldn’t do it.

Nevertheless, at one point I felt as if I was in the air above my body in a horizontal position, but I still couldn’t see anything. My eyes were closed and I felt that I wasn’t fully there yet. Long story short, I got tired of trying, the vibrations began to leave me and I decided that I would go to sleep and give it another go the next day.

Next morning

The next morning I got up feeling extremely exhausted. I still had troubles believing what happened to me the night before, but I was so tired that I couldn’t even really think about it. I remember getting into the shower and being so worn out that I could hardly stand. I was also extremely cold, which wasn’t normal at all. I stood in the boiling hot shower for half an hour trying to get myself warm.

Getting ahead of myself, I want to mention that never again was I so tired after having practiced astral projection, out of body experience or lucid dreaming. I still have no idea what happened to me then, but I remember that the bodily exhaustion that I felt can only be compared to something like running a marathon. I remember thinking to myself then that if humans do hold energy, then I probably wasted it all trying to astral project so hard the night before. It actually scared me, but I didn’t want to quit. I discovered something wonderful.

My life after my first attempts

The next couple of years of my life included hundreds of attempts to experience astral projection. Numeral times I felt intense vibrations and how my body hung in the air above me, but I just could not reach that point of full separation. It always seemed to be so close, but not close enough. Excitement and anxiety were always too strong to let me accomplish what I wanted.

I spent a lot of time on forums dedicated to astral projection, out of body experiences and lucid dreaming. I also began reading books from some of the most famous practitioners, such as Robert A. Monroe, Robert Bruce and Stephen Laberge. A lot of it was interesting, but mostly it was theoretical. Yes, there were some techniques that were more popular than others and recommended, such as the rope technique, but none of them worked for me.

I was extremely annoyed by the fact that even though I could lie down and almost instantly feel the vibrations, I was not able to even once fully leave my body. I felt like I was more gifted that others, but I just couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong.

Sadly, the forums that I looked at had a ridiculous amount of arguments and controversy. Every practitioner had their own theory regarding the nature of astral travel and lucid dreaming, and everyone was desperately pushing it on others. I, on the other hand, just wanted to experience it all the way.

After a long period of failing, I gave up trying and completely forgot about astral projection, lucid dreaming and out of body experiences.

Michael Raduga

I cannot remember the exact day, nor why I decided to return to one of the forums dedicated to astral projection, but I remember coming across a particular discussion that intrigued me. People were discussing Michael Raduga and his OBE and Lucid Dreaming within 3 Days method. They were also saying how effective it was and how they were able to use his approach to experience the phenomenon. Normally, I would disregard any “3-day” approach due to my sad and long history of failed attempts to leave the body, but I decided to give it a try anyways. I already had years of trying, so why not give in another 3 extra days…

I found out that Michael Raduga was a young Russian practitioner with over 10 years of experience. He had already created a few free books on the subject and had his own 3-day seminars, which you could also watch for free on the internet. Luckily, he spoke my mother tongue, so I could understand everything that he was teaching. (Today, you can get his books and videos in many different languages, also for free.)

What I liked about Raduga was his pragmatic approach. He didn’t want to, nor he cared about the origin of this phenomenon. All he cared about was practice and getting solid results. In order to have as little controversy as possible, he even decided to not use the terms “astral projection” or “lucid dreaming”. Instead, he uses one word – “phase” – to describe all, astral projection, lucid dreaming and out of body experiences.

Astral Projection, Out of Body Experience and Lucid Dreaming 3

Raduga also talked about the issues that I was having. He said that you can feel vibrations as much as you want, but that in no way means that you will ever be able to have a full-blown out of body experience. Only one in many thousands will ever be able to experience this. However, anyone can experience the phase quite easily using his approach.

Unlike lying down and trying to astral project, Raduga’s method consists of falling asleep as you normally would, and then making an attempt to leave the body as you wake up. Why particularly at that moment? Because at the moment of waking (5-60 seconds), our brain is already in the perfect state for an out of body experience, similar to a trance or a deep meditation.

I won’t bore you with all the details of Raduga’s approach. If you want to, you can get his books for free at http://obe4u.comYou can also get the print version at Amazon.

Breaking the barrier!

After watching two out of three of Raduga’s lectures, I went to sleep with a strong mindset, thinking that next morning I will wake up and finally have an out of body experience.

As I woke up, I immediately began using Raduga’s techniques to shake myself out of my body. I instantly felt strong vibrations, but I also heard an extremely loud noise, similar to that of an airplane engine. Within a second or two the vibrations intensified to the extent that I was literally thrown out of my body. At the moment of separation, it felt like the rubber bands that were always previously holding me, suddenly broke, and I was free! I couldn’t see anything yet, but I continued to aggressively look at my hands and rub them against each other, just like Raduga had taught. After another second, my vision opened up and I could see. I couldn’t believe it. So many years of trying and I finally did it.

I was right next to my bed, but because I knew that the phase usually doesn’t last too long, I decided to proceed with the list of tasks that I made for myself.

I looked at the wall, and it was extremely realistic, even more realistic than what we normally see. By looking straight at it, my vision went deeper and deeper into it, and I could see microscopic details of it. Unbelievable, but that meant that our reality is actually quite limited. Poor eyesight, a restricted amount of colors and the usual field of view – can all be removed in the phase.

The next thing I did was to try the teleport technique. Raduga explains that to teleport, all you have to do is close your eyes and imagine the place you want to go to, and that’s exactly what I did. I closed my eyes and imagined the Moon. The next thing that happened to me is very similar to what happened to Jodie Foster in the 1997 “Contact” movie. When in the end of the movie she was flying through the worm holes, she had these stops in between the flights. Before each new flight, she would be charged back, and fly again with even greater speed. One of the flights began by a charge sideways, followed by an extremely rapid boost. That was what happened to me. I closed my eyes, imagined the Moon and I instantly was soaring sideways. Again, very loud noise and even the feeling of the wind hitting against my body.

To be honest, I couldn’t handle it yet. I was too scared. I opened my “astral” eyes rather quickly and found myself to be in the same spot as where I left from. Unfortunately, my first phase experience ended right there. The next second I found my physical self lying in my bed again.

For the next couple of months, I was frequently experiencing the phase. Sometimes I would do it upon waking, and sometimes I would lucid dream (have it in my sleep). Raduga says that from his and his students’ observations, astral projection and lucid dreaming can both be referred to as the phase since they are the same phenomenon. The only difference is that in one approach you directly enter the phase, outside of sleep, and in the other approach, you enter it while in sleep.

Despite Raduga’s claims that both, lucid dreaming and astral projection are the exact same thing, I personally found entering the phase outside of sleep to be more real, somewhat different from lucid dreaming. But even if they are different, they are still extremely similar. I just think that the feeling of separation from your physical body is very unique. With lucid dreaming, you never experience that since you are already “outside of your body”, in theory.

Precautions and benefits of astral projection, out of body experiences and lucid dreaming

To begin with, I would like to say that I don’t know what exactly happens to us during astral projection. I don’t know whether we really separate from our body or is it simply related to our imagination, similar to a dream. But then again, maybe our dreams are not just our imagination going wild either, as the majority of us think. All I know is that the phase is real and that it has its benefits.

Please also understand that during the phase, you cannot prove that that reality is the same reality as the one we are used to livingAstral Projection, Out of Body Experience and Lucid Dreaming 4 in. You cannot ask your friend to hide a piece of paper with a secret number, and then to expect to find out what the number is during one of your astral visits there. No, even if the paper will be at the right spot, the number will most likely be wrong. It’s not the same reality. But whether that’s a good thing or not, I can’t say.

Regardless of what people say, your body cannot be “hijacked” while you are in the phase. You cannot be stuck in the phase forever. On the contrary, it’s pretty hard to stay in the phase for long. The moment you think of your body you will be sucked right into it. You can imagine how difficult that is. Try not thinking about the pink elephant… you get the point.

That being said, I would highly recommend for those people that either have a weak heart or mental issues to not practice going into the phase. You never know what consequences it may have. The field does, after all, lack scientific research.

Now, the benefits.

1. Phobias

If you have a phobia, you can easily fix that problem in the phase. Scared of insects? Just surround yourself with the little buggers there. If you can do it there, you will, as a result, be able to do it here. Trust me, the experience there feels so real that you will be just as scared as you are here.

2. Seeing the people you miss

Many of us have problems letting go of people that are deceased. We wish we only had time to say one last word to them. In the phase, you have the chance to do it. Just call them by their name and they usually appear. Again, these will be from your own mind and your own reality, but the experience feels so real that the majority of people don’t even see the difference. Everything about the person you call is real, the looks, the voice, smell and even the things they say to you and the memories they have. For some people, this is on its own a good enough reason to practice the phase.

3. Information

During the phase, you can use everything around you to gain information, the TV, Internet, books, simply by looking around and asking other people or even the creatures your mind creates.

No, you cannot find out about things that you in no way can know, like the future. But you can certainly find out what happened to you at a particular moment of your life, such as when you were 2 years old.

Also, one reason why it is safe to say that the people you meet in the phase are just figures of your imagination is because they can tell you misleading information. You can ask them your name, and they will tell you. You can then repeat the question, and they may have a new name for you. This is the reason why you should always double check the information you get there.

4. Lost abilities

Some of the practitioners in Raduga’s school are invalids. People that cannot walk will be able to do so in the phase. They can even fly.

People that have become blind, are able to see again in the phase. People that have been blind from birth are not able to recreate the reality visually since they have never seen it in real life. Hopefully, this problem is just a matter of time and practice.

5. Creativity

Do you want to see how some house or painting would look like before you attempt to create it? In the phase, you can make it within a matter of seconds. Also, practitioners have reported hearing incredible music that doesn’t exist and being able to play it on an instrument they have never even touched before. The only problem is then to keep it in memory until you are able to reproduce it in reality.

6. Having fun

There are many other uses for astral projection, out of body experiences and lucid dreaming, but to be honest, having fun is my favorite part. I love to run around, jump over buildings, fly, battle, teleport, go through walls, breathe under water and so on. Classical computer games become awfully boring after experiencing the phase.

As I already mentioned, I don’t know why astral projection exists. But what I can say for sure is that if you care enough and put some time into it, you can easily experience it for yourself. There is an infinite amount of uses for it, and I am sure you can find something that will benefit you and help you grow. Astral projection, out of body experiences and lucid dreaming all have the potential to open our eyes and to help us realize that life is a lot deeper than the way in which we see it.

Astral Projection, Out of Body Experience and Lucid Dreaming 5

In the phase, I can do whatever I want and even be whoever I want, which is why it has helped me realize that my life here on Earth is just a role that I get to play for the time being. It has allowed me to understand that all the people around me also have their roles, and it just happened to be that I am me, and they are they – it could have been the other way around. I feel like the phase has pushed me to understand that we people are a lot more closely related to each other.. on a more subtle level that is hidden from those that don’t want to see it.

On the sidenote, I would like to add that you probably noticed how I also referred to lucid dreaming. Well, I actually never did anything for it to happen. When practicing astral projection, lucid dreaming began to happen as well, as a positive “side effect”, so to say. Many practitioners experience this.

What has really helped me on this path is having a dream journal. I would daily wake up in the middle of the night and write down all my dreams. This really improved my dream memory, which also allowed me to remember more about my phase experiences, especially the lucid dream type. I talk about the importance of getting a journal here.

Nice! You’ve made it to the end of my story.
