It is no secret that regardless of why we start a blog, sooner or later, we will want to make money with it, and there are many different ways to do it. 5 Benefits of affiliate marketing

1. You grow an audience

In my opinion, one of the top benefits of affiliate marketing is the fact that it forces you to grow your traffic.

I often say, what can be better than getting paid for doing what you love?

Blogging is one of those types of things that you do that you can proudly talk about to your friends and relatives. There sure isn’t anything “crazy” or “weird” about it. On the contrary, if you work hard enough and you are consistent, blogging may replace your normal job and can even make you rich. No joke. There are plenty of rich bloggers out there. And if you do become one of them, your friends and relatives will listen to you more than ever.

When I first started this blog, I did it purely because I wanted to share my thoughts with the world and hopefully help someone in the process. Money did not really cross my mind at the time.

However, after having done some research, I found out that it’s actually not that hard to make money with a blog. Obviously, I got really excited about this. My motivation to write grew exponentially.

I began to tweak my blog a lot, learned about SEO, read a lot of articles on how to make money online, and eventually, purchased a course on affiliate marketing.

Stefan, the author of that course, emphasized just how important it is to have an email list. At the time, though, I had a basic form for collecting emails located at the sidebar of my blog. My email list then was made up of 2 people – my girlfriend and myself. 😑

Once I realized that I needed a list to make money with affiliate marketing, I upped my game. I created some “free gifts” (also known as an ethical bribe) as something that people can get in exchange from me for their email address. I made an opt-in page, and began to promote it all over my blog and social media. The result? The list, slowly but surely began to grow.

Having an email list is extremely important. Not only will you use it with affiliate marketing, but you can also use it to learn more about the needs of your audience.

I, for example, talk to some of my subscribers on a weekly basis. Sometimes they ask me for some help, and sometimes I ask them for their feedback.

Also, every single person on your list is potentially a returning reader. Every time you write something new for your blog, you let your subscribers know about it. Each person that opens your email and goes over to your blog has increased your traffic, which is really good, especially when you are just starting out and need those numbers.

Finally, if you ever host an event or you create an online course, you will let your whole audience (email list and those on social networks) know about it. The people on your email list, your “tribe” if you will, will be the most responsive.

Affiliate marketing is the most important reason to grow your email list, which can then be used for a number of other things. It’s crucial that you start growing one ASAP!

2. You learn to copywrite

Another really great aspect of affiliate marketing is copywriting.

As Wikipedia puts it, “Copywriting is the act, or occupation of writing text for the purpose of advertising or other forms of marketing. The product, called copy, is written content that aims to increase brand awareness and ultimately persuade a person or group to take a particular action.”

In other words, whenever you try to market or sell something on the internet, you will need to write a copy that will motivate the reader to take some kind of action. A well-written copy, arguably, is one of the most important aspects of affiliate marketing.

It’s simple – the better your copy is, the more you will sell.

If you do affiliate marketing, you will very quickly see just how powerful copywriting is. You will apply it to every email that you send out to your subscribers, as well as in your opt-in pages and social network ads.

Copywriting may seem like the easiest part of affiliate marketing, but really it’s not. It’s easy to write a sales copy, but writing a sales copy that converts is a form of art that’s hard to master.

If you own a blog or any type of website, for that matter, chances are that you will be doing a lot of marketing online. This means that copywriting should become second nature for you.

If you don’t yet understand how to write a good sales letter, then I suggest you do what I did – find online marketers, sign up to their email list, and study the copies that they send you. In other words, read the emails they send you.

3. You can make A LOT of money!

Oh yes, now we get to the best of affiliate marketing – money.

The reason why affiliate marketing is so popular is because it’s a great way to make money… a lot of money.

When I first got into affiliate marketing, I was too afraid to promote something expensive. I just felt “not good enough for it”, if you know what I mean.

Instead, I promoted mostly books on Amazon, which would not cost more than $15 per item. As you can probably figure out, the results left much to be desired. I hardly made any sales. I guess people don’t value books today as much as they did 30 years ago). And when I did make sales, the commissions were a joke. Nonetheless, I got a good idea of what doesn’t work in affiliate marketing.

Having found some encouragement, I began to search for products that had a bigger commission. Fortunately, most of the expensive online courses that I have personally gone through had an affiliate program. The commission was anywhere from 25% ($500) to 50% ($1000).

The best part about promoting these programs was the fact that I knew what was inside and found them to be very good, and worth the money. I had no problem promoting them to my audience. The result? My affiliate commissions grew from 1-2 bucks to thousands.

Now I had the experience and knew for a fact that affiliate marketing is not dead.

If you have a product or service that you believe in, and you know that your audience will enjoy it as well, then, by all means, do promote it. If anything, they will appreciate it.

So you may be wondering, how much can you make with affiliate marketing??? Well, I have seen people that made over a MILLION dollars with one product launch.

That being said, it’s a lot of hard work. It takes time and experience to be that good. It may seem like easy money, but a lot goes on behind the scenes.

If you want to be amongst those people, too, and you are willing to put in the time and effort, I see no reasons why it wouldn’t work out for you.
Taking action is the key to success.

4. New connections that will help you grow faster

Another really cool benefit of affiliate marketing is the connections that you get to make along the way.

Many of the more expensive products that I promote have Facebook groups dedicated to their affiliates. These groups are made so that the affiliates could get help directly from product managers, as well as have access to material that can freely be used when promoting the product or service. Honestly, being a part of those groups makes me feel a bit special. 🙂

As a bonus, these groups give you the opportunity to meet people that are on the same path as you. In “real” life, I don’t have too many people to talk to about blogging or affiliate marketing, which is why I appreciate so much the opportunity to connect with like-minded people through the internet.

When you talk to folks in those groups, as opposed to just on some online forum, you can be sure that these people are the real deal. Just like you, most of them are ambitious and hard-working. Some will have a smaller presence online and have less success than you, while others will be waaaaay ahead of you. But either way, you will all be in the same boat. These groups usually don’t allow people in who are completely new to online marketing.

Once you make some friends, you can collaborate. For example, you can guest post on each other’s blogs, do YouTube collaborations, share tips on affiliate marketing and other things that can help you both grow faster.

5. You prepare yourself for your own online course launch

Finally, the last benefit of affiliate marketing that I absolutely love is the knowledge that you acquire while doing it.

Most of the successful blogs out there sell online courses. I have seen courses on the typical “how to make money online”, but I have also seen courses that teach people how to raise dogs or build a perfect garden. And why do they do this? Simple! Just like affiliate marketing, it’s a great way to make money online using their blogs.

I used to think that to make an online course, you need to be an expert in the field with ten years of experience at least. But then I heard some people in the field say that as long as you have done something that has gotten you good results, or you helped someone else do something that has gotten them good results, you have the right to make an online course about it.

I have recently started making an online course of my own, and I realize that it is more complicated than just affiliate marketing. However, one thing that helps me a lot in making a course is the prior experience gained from promoting other people’s courses and programs.

First of all, by being an affiliate for somebody’s online course, you see what makes money and what doesn’t. You understand what is in demand, and what people are willing to pay for it. You get the bigger picture of this business.

Secondly, because I have participated in launching other people’s courses, I know what needs to be done to make the launch as successful as possible. I get to see everything from the inside, while not having any of the risks associated with launching your own product.

I am certain that every blogger has at least one topic that they can make an online course around. We live in the age of information. It only makes sense that we – bloggers, people that make a living off the internet, use the opportunity to help others learn something new through the online courses that we create.

So these were the 5 benefits of affiliate marketing for bloggers. Hopefully, you found them helpful. If you have any questions for me, feel free to drop them down below in the comment section.
