It’s not a secret that any business starts with the right mindset. We watch motivational movies, read business books, learn about those that have successfully managed to leave the 9-5 rat race.. we then ask ourselves.. what if? What if I, too, can start my own business and become successful?… That is when the so-called business motivation is at its peak state. It’s the perfect time to take action.
Naturally, however, all motivation, including the business one, weakens with time. Mistakes happen, obstacles are met and life gets complicated. That success euphoria that we experienced just a while ago can now hardly be felt.
Don’t worry though, there are things that you can do to keep that state of mind as high possible at all stages of your business. Below, you will find the 7 ways you can achieve this. Enjoy!
1. Read biographies
There was a time when things weren’t going so well for me in life. I felt as if there was absolutely no purpose in anything that I did, and waking up every morning was a pain.
I am not going to dive deep here into how I ended up in such a dark place – the story is long and I’ve discussed it in some of my other posts. However, I do want to say that one of the first things that helped me get out of that dark place was reading the biographies of some of the most successful people in the world.
Unlike the typical books on self-development and success, biographies and auto-biographies are extremely powerful in growing your business motivation. The reason for this is the realness of those stories. They aren’t fictional.
Some of the successful people that we know today, such as Walt Disney or Ludwig van Beethoven, had a very hard time getting to the place they eventually got. A lot of blood, sweat and tears were spilled. But what makes many of these stories so special is the fact that despite all of those challenges and obstacles, they were able to achieve what they were after.
As you read the stories of Steve Jobs or even Albert Einstein, it becomes clear how much adversity they had to go through before they were able to make a name for themselves. Then suddenly, your problems don’t feel so big and scary anymore. You become inspired by their stories, and that inspiration can then be used to propel yourself forward in business.
These stories helped me in starting this blog and other online projects. They were what ultimately pushed me to go outside of my comfort zone.
Today, whenever I feel down, weak, shy or “not good enough”, I return to those stories for an extra boost of business motivation. Works like a charm.
2. Choose carefully the people around you
As Jim Rohn once famously said, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. I cannot agree more with him.

As a teenager, I, unfortunately, surrounded myself a lot with people that weren’t law-abiding citizens, to put it softly. They robbed, got into fights, abused substances and alcohol. And as you can imagine, I wasn’t a saint either.
As a result, it was very hard for me to get out of that “hole” that I was in for so long. I pretty much had to go all the way down before finally deciding that something needed to be changed in my life, and fast.
I first started reading various self-development books. I unsubscribed from all of the junk on YouTube and began to watch channels that motivated me. I then began to network and communicate with like-minded people on the internet, people that were also interested in making the best version of themselves. And the more I talked to them, the more motivated and inspired to take action I became.
Simultaneously, I was spending less time with people that were not a good influence. These were the friends that I used to hang out with pointlessly before. And it wasn’t that I intentionally had to get rid of them. Instead, they lost interest in having me around next to them. I was more than ok with that, since I now wanted to grow, evolve and develop myself (yep, that’s where the name of the blog comes from).
Choose the people you spend time with wisely. Preferably, they should already have what you are after and they should be able to inspire you to become better, and not hold you back.
3. Have a bigger vision, the “WHY?”
There have been many occasions on which I wanted to give up with my online business. Sometimes it was the mistakes that I made that I thought I would not recover from. Other times I compared myself to people that were much more successful than me… I AM NEVER GOING TO ACHIEVE WHAT THEY HAVE ACHIEVED, I said to myself.
And sometimes, I simply felt too tired to keep going. I began to doubt all of my decisions.
But you know what? Every single time I managed to overcome all of the roadblocks, negative thoughts and obstacles that I had to deal with. I always managed to find more fuel for my business motivation. The way I did it is by reminding myself of the “why”.
The why stands for “why am I doing the things that I am doing? What’s the purpose of it all, the meaning?”
Because my vision since day one of starting this blog has been about helping others, I am able to keep going no matter what. I am not doing this for the money.
If my vision for blogging would be about becoming rich, then I would have quit during the first year of publishing content. If it was for any other reason with the focus on myself only, I would have also quit years ago.
Whether it is through the information that I put out there or through the donations that I make to charities, my vision is to help as many people as possible. If I quit now, I have failed.
My “why”, the vision, is to help others. It is not about me, and it’s powerful enough to put all of the roadblocks aside.
Do you know your why?
4. Find a coach or a mentor
Most self-made millionaires and billionaires have had a mentor or a business coach of some sort.
If you look at professional sports, athletes don’t become successful on their own. No, they have coaches to help them. With business, it’s no different.
At the early stages of starting a business, it’s enough to read motivational books and learn about the basics of that business model through a course or a program. However, with time, as your business grows, you will start making mistakes and maybe even lose money. The business motivation that you got from books and courses will no longer be enough. This is where a mentor or a coach comes into play.
A coach or a mentor will make sure that you do not go off track. He will make sure that when you are in a moment of crisis, you do not make stupid decisions, causing your business to fail completely. He will give you tips, advice based on personal experience, hold you accountable, and, most importantly, he will support you as you keep growing. He will be your second source of motivation for your business.
You may think that you don’t need a coach or a mentor, but trust me, having one will make you a hundred times more efficient than if you were to do it all on your own. Some of the most successful people have one or more coaches at all times, despite their already achieved success.
5. Consider joining or starting a mastermind
When it comes to growing my business motivation and moving forward with my goals, joining a mastermind was one of the smartest things I have ever done.
For years I kept hearing wealthy business owners say that having a personal coach is crucial to success, but so are mastermind groups. So what is a mastermind?
A mastermind is a group of people that gets together every once in a while to share ideas, get and offer advice, keep each other accountable and motivate all members of the group to keep taking action.
The purpose of a mastermind can really be divided into 2 main categories: 1. share practical tips and 2. keep motivating each other to take action. This is at least the way I always saw it.
Mastermind groups usually get together every 2 weeks, every month, 3 months or half a year. This can be in person or over the internet.
In addition, all masterminds have a theme. Some focus on improving relationships, some on health (diets and exercises), some on spirituality, some on business, etc.
As someone that was trying to make this whole online business thing work and having heard so much good about masterminds, I just knew that I needed to join one.
Unfortunately, though, many of the existing masterminds were quite expensive, and I wasn’t yet ready to pay that kind of money.
I ended up joining a free mastermind that I found on Reddit.
To keep the story short, I absolutely loved being a part of a mastermind. Those business folks were not lying – mastermind groups do really push you forward like crazy.
After having been a member of a mastermind for a while, I felt that it was a little too general for me. As a result, I got really interested in starting my own group. This way, I could make the theme of the group as specific as I needed it to be, which would also allow me to attract the right kind of people.
Starting a mastermind group was really easy, but it did not last long. Members were not attending, some were not completing their goals and some weren’t participating at all. Naturally, the group rather quickly dissolved.
It was clear that keeping a mastermind group together and leading it was harder than I initially thought.
So if you decide that you want to get paid for bringing people together in a community that helps them grow, then I highly recommend that you attend this free training. You want to make sure that you are doing everything correctly right from the start.
6. Keep learning
Earlier I mentioned that one of the best ways to keep that business motivation rolling is to read self-development and biography books. Here, I would like to emphasize that it is extremely important that you never ever stop consuming new information.
You cannot reach a certain level of success and then just quit learning. No, it’s an ongoing process that lasts forever. Either you move forward or you move back. There is no standing still.

All of the successful people of this world spend a fortune on self-education. Either they keep reading books, go through online courses, attend seminars, or pay someone to personally teach them. By keeping up with the world, they remain flexible and therefore successful.
Because the planet today is evolving faster than ever, ongoing self-education is a must. The more you learn, the more you know. The more you know, the more options you will have to choose from when it comes to growing your business more effectively.
7. Take time off!
Finally, you must keep in mind that no matter how motivated you are at this moment in life, sooner or later, that motivation is going to drop. This is unfortunate, but a natural part of the process. You cannot be at the peak state of mind forever.
However, what you can do is make sure that when your peak state of mind does lower, you return to it as fast as possible. To achieve this, you must take time off.
This may sound strange to some, but when you have the momentum going on in life, it’s easy to forget to relax. As a matter of fact, I did this for a whole year.
I remember getting up at 4 am to go to the gym. I would be there at 5 am. At 7 am, I would already be at work. At 4 pm, I would return home, eat and start working on my online projects. I lived like this for a whole year.
I must say that I over-achieved during that year. I was working or exercising literally from the moment I woke up to the moment I fell asleep. It was great, but then the “crash” happened.
After a whole year of working like a maniac with no holidays, I finally burned out. I burned out so bad that I could not properly work again for a whole month. It was really hard to get back on track, but it was completely expected now that I think of it. I simply needed to take breaks.
No matter how much you love working on your business, never forget to take time off! If you don’t have those days where you lie motionless on the couch and watch movies, you will lose all of your business motivation sooner or later. And when that happens, it will be very difficult to grow it back to the level that it used to be at. It’s kind of like taking vitamins… it’s much easier to take them every once in a while to keep the cold away, rather than to never take them and then have to go through a full-blown flu with antibiotics.
Hopefully, you now understand how to grow that business motivation and to stay inspired as you keep working on your dreams. Either way, everything that I have mentioned here comes from personal experience. But if you have anything to add or comment on, feel free to do so in the comment section down below.
