Before we get into the details of course creation, I wanted to let you know that I have a separate updated Digital Course Academy review. I highly recommend that you have a look at it. There I share my initial thoughts on the course, the fears that I had before purchasing, as well as the reason why I went ahead and purchased it anyway.
P.S. Since Digital Course Academy is going to be launched soon, you can already now take Amy’s new quiz that will help you decide on which type of course to create, and whether to create one at all.
Let’s get started!
How Digital Course Academy helps you grow your email list
Before purchasing DCA, I already had an email list. It was quite smallish, but nevertheless something.
Digital Course Academy is not about growing your email list. Amy has a different program for that. However, she was nice enough to include a bonus into the program that basically teaches you all of the things you need to do BEFORE you launch your digital course.
In other words, you do what the bonus tells you to do as soon as you get your hands on it, and you continue doing it as you are working on your digital course. The goal of this bonus is to grow your following online.
I’ll be honest with you, I thought I knew everything about growing an email list, although I shouldn’t have been so confident about it, taking into consideration the fact that the growth was REALLY slow for me.
Well, the bonus helped me tremendously. My email list began to grow a lot faster and I found out exactly what I was missing in my approach.
P.S. Having at least some people on your email list is key to having a successful digital course launch.
Picking the right topic and course type
I knew that I wanted to make a course around WordPress blogging, as that is something I have been doing for quite a while and am passionate about. The only problem was that I didn’t know what exactly would my course contain. Would it be about SEO, content creation, coding, making money or starting a blog from scratch? Seriously, it was a hard decision to make.
Fortunately, in DCA Amy breaks it down for us. She says that there are five different types of courses that you can create:
- The Workshop Course
- The Starter Course
- The Spotlight Course
- The Signature Course
- The Certification Course
Each type of digital course has its own complexity and price point. After having spent a month brainstorming, I decided that I would go right in the middle, with the Spotlight course.
My course is quite comprehensive, but not entirely complete. I show you everything you need to know about blogging, from picking a niche and installing WordPress, to SEO and content creation. However, I do not go deeply into how you can make money from blogging, as I feel I do not yet have enough knowledge in the field to be confident enough to teach that. If I would, it would be a Signature course with a much higher price point.
One important thing to add is that it didn’t take me a month to come up with the exact course topic because I was just brainstorming. No, I also validated my topic by interviewing people. This is what Digital Course Academy also teaches and pretty much insists that you do. But more on that in the next section.

Validating course topic
Validating your course topic is one of the most essential pieces when it comes to having a course that will sell. As Amy puts it, you can spend months creating a course, but if no one is interested in your topic, then you’ll end up attracting no one and won’t earn a cent, so what’s the point? NEVER ASSUME that your topic is interesting to others. Always validate!
Validating your course topic means connecting with those people that you think would be interested in it, and asking them what exactly is it that they want to learn in that field.
Only once you have enough people that have told you that they are interested in something specific, you can start working on your outline. Once again, course topic validation is crucial!
Making the outline
In all honesty, I was scared of making the outline for my course at first. Why? Because I had no idea what I should and what I shouldn’t include in my course.
Fortunately, Amy in Digital Course Acadamy does a very good job in explaining the outlining process. At first, I had no idea where to start, but once I got the framework of how to do it, it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought.
Once I began doing it, it was like a flow and took no longer than a week to create the outline and to perfect it.
Creating slides and filming
In this module, Amy teaches how to create beautiful slides for your course, as well as how to film it.
Amy emphasizes that if you are relatively new to course creation, or have never made one before, you don’t need to go fancy. If you don’t want to, you don’t need to be on camera. But if you do, you can even use your mobile phone to film. After all, today the quality of cameras on mobile phones is quite decent.
You also don’t need to buy a separate microphone. The mic on your computer will do just fine.
After hearing these things, I was relieved, since even though I have been on camera before for YouTube, I didn’t want to be on camera for my course.
For my course, since I teach things that have to do with blogging, I decided that slides, computer microphone and screen capturing software will be all that I need. My students need to understand and see the process behind blogging. My face isn’t relevant in this case.
Final thoughts on DCA today
Today I have almost completed my whole digital course. I have pretty much only the launch left to do, the process of which is also explained in great detail in Digital Course Academy.
I must say that depending on what type of a course you choose to make, it can take some time. It did for me. I wanted to make sure that my students would be satisfied with the material that they pay for. I wanted to make sure that I help them get from point A to point B in the most efficient way possible.
The process of making the course was demanding, but actually quite exciting since this is the first time I do it. The great part is that I never had to think about what would be the next step in the process and how to make it happen. DCA and Amy Porterfield did this all for me. This is exactly why someone would want to buy Digital Course Academy in the first place… to get the whole process, step by step from someone that has a ton of experience in course creation.
I have probably already said this in the DCA review blog post, but just in case, once again, Digital Course Academy is the best and most complete online course that I have ever bought, and I have bought plenty.
This is partly because of the quality of the content itself, but also because of the way how Amy Porterfield teaches it. I wish all teachers in school could teach like she does.
Finally, Amy has decided to update the core of DCA this August 2023, which I am super excited about. The course was already really good, but now it should get even better. I am definitely going to postpone my launch and go through the new version, just in case I find something new for myself that I might have missed out.
In conclusion, having read this, you probably now understand how I feel about DCA. There’s no need to repeat myself.
But if you want to know more about the core content, just check out my review of the course. I have updated it since I made it last year. Everything I say there is still valid today.
Finally, since DCA is soon to be launched, I recommend that you grab Amy’s quiz that will help you understand whether course creation is for you, and if it is, which type of online course you should go for based on your skills. The quiz is pure gold this year!
P.S. If you have any questions for me regarding course creation or blogging, don’t hesitate to contact me directly. I’ll be sure to help in any way that I can.
