Recently I was fortunate enough to receive a product called FOCI AI. It’s a small little tracker that helps to boost your focus, which is something I, as a blogger that writes a lot, often struggle with.
Because I’ve been wanting to get some kind of activity tracker for over a year now, I thought that this would be the perfect product to test out and to write an honest review about. And yes, it’s an honest FOCI AI review. I never do reviews of physical products that I don’t use myself and find beneficial.
P.S. If you feel by the end of this review that you want to purchase FOCI, you can use this promo code “VICSTP15” in order to get 15% off. The discount has no expiration date.
Here is an introductory video from the official FOCI AI team:
So what is FOCI AI?
FOCI is a small wearable that is about the size of the tip of your thumb. You clip it onto your pants so that it is somewhere next to your belly.
The goal of FOCI is to track your emotions through breathing patterns so that you know when is the best time for you to focus on your work, and when you should rest. Its target is on providing emotional feedback to four main areas: focus and flow, relaxation, fatigue and stress.
FOCI also connects to a free app so that you could view your emotion records, as well as set Pomodoro timers and receive detailed productivity statistics. “FOCI captures your cognitive states and the app transforms them into colored orbs, which quickly help you visualize and understand your current state, and points you to optimize your state of mind, so you can stay focused and perform efficiently.” – https://fociai.com
Also, you can customize 5 different types of haptic (vibrational) distraction alerts on FOCI so that you could be more aware of what state of mind you are currently in.
Finally, as the FOCI AI team puts it, “Tested by Cambridge students for their exams, it is used by 15,000+ crowdfunding backers, and recommended by top media like BBC, Fast Company and Financial Times.”
And by the way, FOCI’s charge lasts for up to 7 days!!!
What comes in the package?
FOCI comes in a really nice and sturdy package, not like something you get when ordering from eBay.
You get a cardboard box, inside of which is FOCI itself, a USB charging cable, an elastic belt that you can clip FOCI on instead of clipping it to your pants, and a 100-page booklet, called “SKILL of DEEP FOCUS”. The book is basically filled with motivational stories and exercises to help you grow your focus.
How does it work?
The official website has all of the information you need, but I will share briefly what you need to do to make FOCI AI work.
First of all, you charge the tiny device. After you have charged it, you clip on FOCI somewhere close to your waist so that it could start reading your breathing patterns.
Because FOCI uses a powerful and agile form of machine learning, you will not be able to use FOCI straight away. You will need to have FOCI first study your breathing patterns. That is what machine learning is all about. It’s not just programmed to have the same algorithm for everyone. Instead, it gradually learns to understand you because your breathing patterns are different from everyone else’s.
After you have used FOCI for a while and it has collaborated completely with your breathing patterns, now FOCI will be able to tell you exactly when you are stressed or when you feel relaxed.
So for example, there are two main functions in the app: Deep Work and Focus Boost. I have found that sometimes one works for me better than the other, and vice versa. In other words, you need to find out for yourself when to use which. But the point is when you turn one on, you get a timer and a little balloon-like image that has a scale growing and falling depending on how relaxed or focused you are. This helps you better focus on your work.
The moment I realized the FOCI really does work is when I was arguing with my parents, and I instantly saw the FOCI orb in the app go red and then yellow once we stopped the arguing.

Pros and cons
Cons
FOCI’s design is truly great. The device is small and sturdy, but it can be really hard sometimes to pull the clip from FOCI when you are trying to hang it onto your pants. You always need to use two hands in order to really get it on there.
FOCI is meant for sitting only. So you can’t really go playing tennis and expect it to tell you how you feel. But then again, it’s not really a con, it’s just not something FOCI is meant to do.
Other than this, no cons.
Pros
I have used activity trackers in the past, and I must say that this one is truly different.
It’s different for two main reasons.
1. Usually activity trackers follow your heart beats, the number of steps you make, how you sleep, etc. FOCI focuses on your breathing pattern in order to show you how well you are working. This is extremely important for those that procrastinate a lot and easily get distracted like me.
2. The design is not like something I have seen before. If you don’t like having a wrist band or a ring on your finger, then FOCI is great because you simply clip it on your pants and forget about it.
Since FOCI uses machine learning, it’s really accurate once it “gets to know you”. When using it, you don’t feel like you have a toy clipped onto you. It’s not a toy at all.
So this was it for this review. Hopefully, you found it useful. Once again, if you want to purchase FOCI, you can use this promo code “VICSTP15” in order to get 15% off. The discount has no expiration date.
