I see a lot of the same questions asked by bloggers, such as “What is the best content management system out there?” or “Why is WordPress the best content management system (CMS)?”
At first, I was a little surprised that these things are so commonly asked when we all should know that WordPress is the absolute best. Not only the best, but also the easiest content management system to use!
But then I thought to myself, just because I know the benefits of WordPress, it doesn’t mean that others do. Besides, I’ve been a CMS developer in the past myself and have owned a blog for the last seven years. I then realized that I need to be more mindful of others.
So as a result, today I decided to make a mini-review of why I think that WordPress is the best CMS out there. I’ve put together ten reasons why I think this system should be chosen over any other.
P.S. I am talking about WordPress.org, not WordPress.com. WordPress.com is a whole different platform.
Why WordPress is the best content management system
1. 100% editable code
The first and my favorite reason why WordPress is the best content management system is because of how flexible it is. In this case, I mean that all code is freely available and editable. Moreover, WordPress is totally FREE.
On the one hand, if you don’t know how to code yourself and you go on fiddling with the code, you can really mess things up. Of course, you can always reverse the mess, but it may break your site for a while if you aren’t sure what to do.
But if you DO know how to code (or you hire a web developer to do it for you), it opens up endless possibilities.
Take my current theme for example. It was a free theme that looked very different at first. But because I know how to code, as time went by, I made changes to it based on my new preferences and requirements. As a result – a theme that looks quite different from the original. All of this was possible because WordPress gives me access to the code of the theme.

2. Constant updates
According to WordPress.org, over 60 million people have chosen to use this CMS for their blogs, e-commerce stores, news websites, portfolio websites, etc. And what does this mean? Yup! The system is so popular that it is forced to always be up to date with the internet trends. The WordPress community is constantly upgrading, improving and adjusting the CMS.
Because of how many people all over the world use WordPress, it seems like the system will only keep growing and becoming better.
3. Themes
I am not here to bash other content management systems, but I must say that WordPress has an endless amount of themes that you can choose from. I mean why not? WordPress is the most popular content management system in the world, so why wouldn’t it offer the most amount of themes then? It only makes sense.
Earlier I mentioned just how flexible WordPress is. Well, concerning themes, you have quite a few different options. You can pick a free theme and modify it if needed, you can choose to pay for a specific theme and modify it, or, you can build your own custom theme from scratch. Do as you wish. In my case, I got a free theme and modified it myself, and I am quite happy with it.
You may be asking, other than for different designs, what is the purpose of having thousands of different themes (over 9,000 free themes)? Well, some themes are slower, and some are faster. Some are optimized for selling physical products, while others are optimized for selling digital products and memberships. Some are good for displaying photos, while others are made specifically for online marketing. For every need, there is its own theme type.
4. Plugins
In the past, when CMSs didn’t exist yet, every new feature, such as for example a “timer” on your blog or a “contact form” would need to be manually developed by a web developer. It was an expensive and tedious process.
Fortunately, CMSs, such as WordPress, allow us to have these features instantly without writing a single line of code. All you have to do is download the needed plugin and voila! You can now use the feature on your website. (List of WordPress plugins here.)
But once again, because WordPress is the most used content management system out there, the number of plugins for it is also pretty much endless.. well, almost endless.. currently, there are 56,694 (registered) plugins available. Not too much, but not too little either, I’d say.
The plugins come in all shapes and forms, depending on what you want. For example, check out Cornify, a plugin that begins displaying unicorns on your website after five seconds of user inactivity. Seriously.
Once again, if you are tech-savvy or you need something very custom, you are free to code a plugin of your own. FULL FLEXIBILITY.
5. Easy fixes
Just like anything in the world, websites also do break once in a while for various reasons. But because… not going to get tired of repeating this… WordPress is the best content management system and the most popular, there are also so many web developers in the world that can quickly help you fix the problems.
Because of the large number of WordPress developers in the world, they are also usually cheaper than the developers that specialize in other content management systems. You can easily find cheap help on either Fiverr or Upwork.
6. User-friendly interface
Another reason why I think that WordPress is the best content management system is its interface.
When I first started using WordPress, I thought it would be a pain to get to know how to actually use it. In my head, I compared it to something like Photoshop.
Well, the reality was quite the opposite. Only after half a day of playing around the admin dashboard, I pretty much figured out everything I needed to know about the CMS at that moment. I was pleasantly surprised. Anyone can learn to use it quite quickly. That’s one of the reasons why it’s so popular.
7. Other users
Some websites are administered by more than one person. With many other CMSs, you would give your friends the username and password, and hope that by the end of the day your site is still “alive”.
With WordPress, you can invite as many friends as you want to administer your website, but you can also grant them different roles. At the moment, I see nine different roles:
So if you are the administrator, and you want your friends to only be able to write articles for your blog, then you can give them the “Contributor” role. They won’t have access to any other settings of the blog. This way you will never have to worry about someone else killing your website.
8. Totally free
WordPress.org (not WordPress.com) is a totally FREE platform for anyone to use. This means that all you have to do to create your own WordPress website is to find a hosting provider (I recommend Bluehost.com for anyone just starting) and a domain name (which Bluehost will give you for free). And that’s it! NO EXTRA COSTS, unlike with many other blogging platforms out there.
This is what WordPress has to say about itself:
WordPress contributors work around the globe, and have dedicated countless hours to build a tool that democratizes publishing. WordPress is open source software that is both free and priceless.
Before you go on paying for a hosting plan, you can also play around with WordPress for free on your own computer by installing it locally. Instructions can be found here.
9. Monetization
One other reason why I think that WP is the best cms out there is that you can monetize your website without any restrictions.
I am not sure whether you knew or not, but many other blogging platforms will not allow you to advertise on your blog using Google AdSense, let alone allow you to have affiliate links posted. In other words, it’s extremely limited to how you can make money for the work that you put in as a blogger.
Click To TweetWe don’t just sell websites, we create websites that SELL. –
But once again, because you own 100% of your WordPress website, you can include as many ads and affiliate links in it as you wish. This really does make a big difference for people that eventually want to make blogging their full-time job.
10. An wonderful community
And finally, I think that WordPress is the best content management system because of its AMAZING community. People are generally helpful and you can find answers to almost any question that may arise.

For example, if you download a WordPress plugin, you will always see “Reviews” and “Support” sections. There, you will find all the help that you need. And if the information is not already there, you simply ask your question and someone will reply to you in no time.
So these were my ten reasons why I think that anyone deciding to create a new website today should go with WordPress over anything else. There are other reasons also, of course, but I chose these as my top ten.
