I’ve been in the search of a new bag for quite a while. I am usually picky about what I wear, so it definitely wasn’t an easy choice to make. However, I did have a couple of criteria in mind.

First of all, I exercise regularly. I go to the gym and I do Thai boxing, so there’s a lot of stuff I carry around. Also, I don’t have a car, which means that I very often have all of my sports gear with me on the go. As a result of this, I knew that the new bag has to be very comfortable and big enough to fit everything I need with me.

Secondly, I wanted the bag to look and feel decent. My last sports bag’s shoulder strap broke off due to a lot of weight, so I had no option other than to always carry it in my hands. Very annoying, especially when it was packed.

Because I didn’t want the same fate for the new bag, I was willing to invest in it. I thought to myself, I don’t buy bags that often, might as well get one that’s tough and sexy.

Duffel bags

Honestly, two months ago I did not even know of the word “duffel”, maybe because my mother tongue is Russian or maybe because I am ignorant, or maybe both, who knows.

Anyway, I saw a person on the street walking with a sports bag, which immediately caught my attention. It was big and of sports-type, but the person was wearing it like it was a normal backpack, using two straps that go over the shoulders instead of the conventional one that makes the bag hang on the side. It was also in the shape of a cylinder. Both of these things seemed really attractive to me.

Long story short, I googled around and discovered that these kinds of bags are called “duffel bags”. It became clear that it was the type of bag I was lookig for.

Having searched the internet for a while, I came across the North Face Base Camp duffel bag. Without hesitation, I purchased it.

I’ve had the bag for a month now, and I must say I absolutely love it. I really liked its design when looking at it through the computer screen, but in reality, it’s even better. I enjoy this product so much that I even decided to make a review of it, which is not something I usually do when it comes to physical products.

Size

When choosing a sports bag, you need to know what size you are looking for. The last thing you want is to buy an expensive bag and then realize that your ice skates don’t fit in. Sizes, such as S, M or L often don’t really tell us much, since we can’t know how small really is a bag labeled as “S”.

I knew that I wanted a bag big enough to fit all of my Thai boxing gear – gloves, shin guards, two water bottles, hand wraps, shorts and a t-shirt. I didn’t want it to be any bigger, though.

Since I couldn’t find the North Face Base Camp duffel bag anywhere in my area, I bought it online. But before that, I made sure I was ordering the right size.

I went to my nearest sports store to check out what sports bag sizes they had. The optimal size was 50 liters, which was what North Face’s “S” size was, also 50 liters.

That size for me is ideal. It fits in everything I have perfectly and does not leave any extra unnecessary space. The S size also sits very comfortably on my back. I can ride a bike fast and not have anything bump against my “tushie”.

Design

The design is what I really love most about the duffel bag.

When delivered, it comes in a small, compact bag. So if you need to put it away for some time, no problem, it hardly will take any space.

• When packed with stuff, the duffel is of cylinder shape, which sits very well on the back. If needed, you can also tighten the bag with the four compressions straps located on the sides.
• The bag has four handles for your convenience, one on each of the four sides. It also has the two main shoulder straps that are used to carry the bag, just like you would carry a school backpack.
• It includes a water-resistant ID pocket.
• One of the sides has an extra compartment that I use to put smaller items into, such as keys and a wallet.
• On the inside of the bag, there is a zippered mesh pocket.

Materials

The bag is hard. Not like rock-hard, but hard enough to feel very sturdy. On The North Face website, you will find the following information about the used materials:

• water-resistant Base Camp material
• 1000D Phthalate-Free TPE Fabric Laminate, 840D Jr. Ballistic Nylon

To put it in human language, the outside of the bag feels hard, kind of like a rain jacket, but on steroids. The inside of the bag is even harder and made of laminate, which is the stuff you find an apartment floor made of.

I am pretty sure that this duffel bag can keep your gear dry and in shape even during a hardcore storm.

Overall feeling

The North Face Base Camp duffel bag is a high-quality product. It’s very well thought-out, and its design is something I personally appreciate very much.

The materials also feel great. The way in which they have been stitched together makes me believe that the bag will last for a decade.

The bag does cost a bit, but it’s totally worth it, in my opinion. I’ve many times gone cheap on something and ended up paying twice. Here, you pay once and can be confident that the sports bag is the real deal.

I recommend this product for anyone who leads an active lifestyle, likes comfort and spends a lot of time on the go.
