We, humans, are the miniature of nature and our life is a precious gift of nature. Likewise, Ayurveda is the wisdom of nature. About 5000 years ago, in the land of India, the first seeds of Ayurveda were sown.

At the core, the science of Ayurveda is concerned with balancing the three doshas – Vata, Pitta and Kapha for fostering health and vitality. And, Ayurveda believes that a disease is the end result of disharmony with nature. In this sense, its approach to healing is rooted in establishing harmony between the body and nature. For this reason, Ayurveda is often regarded as ‘Mother of Healing.’

For the purpose of restoration, Ayurveda employs the use of herbs, detoxification treatments, diet and lifestyle plans.

Given below are the 7 ways why Ayurveda is your path to a healthy and happy life.

1. Ayurveda is not just the healing system, but a way of living.

Ayurveda suggests the ideal time of waking and sleeping for a balanced life. Waking before sunrise and never in bed after sunrise is considered healthy in Ayurveda. Waking before sunrise is recommended so that you can synchronize your body rhythm with that of the sun. In the morning the atmosphere is soothing and pure. The effects of which can be enhanced with the practice of meditation and yoga. By following the daily ritual of waking before the sunrise and practicing the yoga techniques, you can strengthen the mind-body immunity and lead a blissful life.

2. Ayurveda emphasizes on simple morning rituals for a healthy and happy life.

Ayurveda Philosophy states that the first thing you ingest sets your tone for the day. Therefore, it proposes to drink a glass of lukewarm water with lemon and honey. The lukewarm water stimulates the gastrointestinal tract and the mineral content of lemon helps loosen toxins from the digestive tract. Secondly, rinse your face upon waking up to disperse the leftover Pitta energy thus, preparing it for the day’s stress and pollution. Scrape the tongue with a tongue scraper to dislodge ama. This activity unearths the taste buds and awakens the gastric fire for savoring delicacies. With the Ayurveda morning rituals, you can prepare your body better for the day.

3. In Ayurveda, massage is as important as other activities of the day.

Massaging the body parts, especially the ears and nose with herbal oil is a boon for the body. Put a few drops of sesame oil in the opening of the ear to keep the drying Vata energy in check. Ayurveda considers the nose as the gateway to the brain. Rubbing the nostrils with medicated oil cleans the sinuses and ensures mental clarity. Undergo full body massage technique of Abhyanga, to flood the body and mind with healing energy. The usage of dosha pacifying oils fosters harmony and relaxation of the body-mind.

4. The science of Ayurveda places prime emphasis on the detoxification procedures.

Panchakarma, the procedure of five purging techniques (Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Raktmokshan) is the most efficient and widely performed detoxification treatment. The Panchakarma treatment purifies the blood and organs of the liver, lungs, kidneys, lymphatic system and the skin. The five Panchakarma techniques deeply cleanse and nourish the body from inside-out. When the body is nurtured, its vital functioning gets enhanced that keeps your health in the optimal state.

Ojas is regarded as the life-supporting force within the body that enhances the body’s immune system and acts as a coordinate between mind, body and soul. For regulating sleep patterns, perform some relaxing yoga poses to get your body & mind ready for the sleep.

6. Ayurveda teaches to each and everyone to eat wisely.

It’s never good to skip your breakfast as it is one of the important meals of your day. From sunrise to roughly around 10 am is Kapha time according to Ayurveda, the time for exercising. Therefore, consume light meals like fruits, juice, yogurt, grains, oats with muesli, etc. Eat your lunch between noon and one o’clock because the digestive fire is at its peak. At night, have your dinner early around 7-8 pm. Around this time, the digestive fire cools, so it’s best to have lighter meals for better digestion.

7. The science of Ayurveda includes the practices of yoga and meditation.

As you wake up in the morning, practice Meditation, Pranayama, and Sun Salutation to savor the stillness. The yoga asana practices keep the body healthy while the meditation and pranayama helps keep the mind calm.
