I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid, my parents used to tell me that life is short and that time flies fast. “In a blink of an eye you will become a grown-up”, they said. But to be honest, that never really caught my attention. The most important thing that my parents forgot to tell me is why all of that mattered. So what if time flies fast? So what if I become a grown-up soon? I want to become a grown-up so that I could already make my own decisions!

I was also told that when I became older, their words would make more sense to me. It’s true, now the do. But I just wish that they could have spent more time explaining why the ticking clock makes such a difference.

Difficult decisions and the realization

I spent many years doing things that really didn’t matter to me. I was told that college is great and that all that matters in life is to get a prestigious job, a wife and kids. These thoughts, just like for many of you, were so heavily implanted into my mind from childhood that I couldn’t even realize that they weren’t my own.

During one of my summer holidays, I realized just how negative I had become. I was already studying for a couple of years, and I spent almost no time thinking about what I would actually want from life. Throughout the week I would study, and during the weekend I would go out and do things that were taking me nowhere. I was wasting time. And although I was doing great in the eyes of family and certain friends, I knew I was miserable.

The last year of my studies was tough. Something was bound to change, but I was just not sure yet what exactly it would be. On the side note, I had already begun actively going to the gym to make the transformation that I was after.

By doing sports and physical exercise, we strengthen our body, get rid of toxins, but most importantly, we grow our willpower. By having decided to go the gym 3-4 times a week without exceptions, I was already making significant changes in life. I was becoming more motivated and accountable for the time I was spending.

Taking care of my body also motivated me to look after what I was consuming. I no longer ate fatty and sugary food. To my own amazement, I wasn’t leading that bad of a lifestyle anymore. I was actually becoming healthy. The best part about it was that I didn’t even have to try hard – I enjoyed the process! Also, it might be a paradox to some, but by doing strenuous exercise, we accumulate more energy and feel more energized than if we would be doing no exercise at all. This became evident to me and I realized that one’s happiness begins with physical health.

Finding the purpose

When I began my professional career, I had all this spare time after work that I missed during my studies. I started work at 7 a.m. and finished already at 3 p.m. I was leading a healthy lifestyle, I had a job and a girlfriend. Based on the philosophy that I was brought up with, I was on the right path. But it wasn’t enough for me. I felt that I needed a new vector in life, a new passion.

Many things had passed through my head in an extremely short period of time. Within 3 months, apart from working at a full-time job, I began an online business. But that wasn’t all. I looked at the transformation that I was going through, and that motivated me to go even further.

Helping others in any possible way was something that I have always enjoyed doing. I also used to joke around that some day I would want to write a book. I am far from a professional writer, but it’s always nice to have a dream like that. Long story short, I combined my life transformation, my interest in writing and my eagerness to help other people, and I created a blog in which I could share some of the things that have helped me to develop myself.

Time is precious, don’t waste it

But what about time? How does all of this fall together with time? Well, when I had no real passion and nothing to pursue, time was just an abstract idea in my mind. Some days used to fly by fast, and some lasted forever. However, when I finally found things that truly motivated and interested me, time was passing so fast to the point where 24 hours were barely enough anymore. If you do what you love, you will realize that you can go on doing it forever. Regardless of the effort, you will enjoy the process and it won’t feel like work.

I have also come to the realization that having a meaning in life is crucial, and if you don’t have one, you must create one as soon as possible. Find something that lights you up and pursue it no matter what! Don’t care about what other people say to you. Don’t let your weaknesses hold you back. Instead, improve yourself and keep pushing forward. Mark down every little achievement and be proud of yourself. Life is too short to spend it preparing for the “big break”.

These are some of the things that my parents never talked to me about. I hope that my little story will motivate you to take action already today.

In any case, this is what I wanted to share with you. Hopefully, you also see how little time we are given here on Earth to actualize ourselves. I wish you all the best! And remember, there is no failure, only feedback.
